Frequently Asked Questions
My hard drive crashed! What do I do?
First off, we recommend that you shut down the computer immediately before any further damage is done.
Secondly, your hard drive probably didn't suffer a physical crash. Hard drives are actually incredibly reliable,
and if your computer has suffered a severe problem (e.g., it won't boot), it is likely a
software issue, not hardware. Either way, we can get your computer working again, usually with all
of your files intact. Just give us a call and
we'll be out to assess the situation as soon as possible.
Do you do on-site service?
Yes, we come to you! We can work on your computer at your home or office or we will pick
it up for service and drop it off when we're finished. Usually it is up to you how you want
us working on your system, although lengthy tasks may require us to work on it off-site.
Either way, you don't have to go anywhere.
Where are you located?
We are based out of Clarendon Hills, IL. Our mailing address can be found on our Contact page. We are
a mobile service that comes to you for your convenience, so we do not have a drop-off
location or office that you can visit. But since we come to you, your life is easier!
Do you serve residential or business customers?
Both! We can work on your home computer or your small business computer. We do not service
computers for large companies because we feel they can be better handled by a dedicated IT
technician or staff. If you're not sure where your business falls,
contact us.
Will you fix my Dell (or Gateway, HP, Compaq, etc.)?
Yes, we will work on your computer no matter who made it. If your computer is still under warranty,
however, we recommend you contact the manufacturer first. If the warranty has run out, or the
manufacturer has been unable to fix the problem you are having, then give us a call
and we'll be happy to be of service.
What are your rates?
Our standard rate is $40 per hour with a one hour minimum. After the first hour, we
charge by the quarter-hour (so one hour and fifteen minutes is $50).
Data recovery is more time-consuming than most jobs and typically must be done off-site. Pricing is as follows:
|
File Recovery to DVD |
$100 |
|
File Recovery to CD* |
$150 |
|
Sector Search for Text Data |
$200 and up |
How long will the job take?
Malware removal typically takes from two to three hours, while other jobs will depend with the nature of the task.
They all depend on how cooperative your computer is, however. Setting up a wireless network, for example, should fall within the one-hour minimum timespan,
but occasionally hardware or software errors arise that might bring the time to two or three hours. Such problems typically can't be foreseen, and we
ultimately have no control over them; we can only work to resolve them when they happen.
That said, it is usually more cost-efficient to schedule tasks for multiple computers at once rather than
having us work on them on different occasions. This is because there is often some downtime while software executes on
one system, allowing the technician to work on another system simultaneously.
What are your hours?
Our official hours are 9 AM to 5 PM Monday through Friday, but we understand that these times
may not fit into your schedule. As such, we are very flexible and if you need us to come out at a different
time (after work or on the weekend, perhaps?), call to make an appointment and we'll do our best
to satisfy your request. Also, we can usually work on your computer off-site beyond our official hours
to get your computer back to you as quickly as possible.
